Norwood Senior Citizen Advisory Committee

The Norwood Borough Council recently approved the formation of the Norwood Senior Citizen Advisory Committee.  Mayor Barsa, Councilman Scott, representatives from the Norwood Senior Citizen Club, Fox Hill Housing, and the health care field comprise the committee.  Their mission is to develop and implement an overall public awareness and information network regarding senior citizens and senior citizen issues and thus be the link between the senior community and the Mayor and Council.  The committee will establish an information network to provide timely information to Norwood Senior Citizens on benefits, services and issues that impact them.  Contact the Office of the Borough Clerk/Administrator at 201-784-2965 or email lmcmackin@norwoodboro.org if you want to place your name on the distribution list.  Also be sure to check the website monthly, as it will be updated to highlight a "senior citizen service or benefit" that may be beneficial to you.

This Month's Topic

CHORE

The CHORE Service, funded by the Bergen County Division of Senior Services, helps senior citizens (aged 60 and over) and disabled homeowners remain safe and secure in their homes by performing minor household repairs that they can no longer do themselves.  Services are performed by CHORE's crew of 21 volunteer handy persons who want to help others.  The CHORE crew will determine if a particular project is beyond their capabilities.  Minor plumbing and electrical (replacement items only) installations such as grab bars in bath areas, internal railings, smoke and carbon monoxide alarms are among their services.  There is no charge for CHORE's services, but clients are expected to pay for the parts necessary to complete the repair and a donation is appreciated.  CHORE is unable to service emergencies and a wait for a service call can be up to two weeks.  Call 201-489-7790 to schedule a service.
