BOROUGH OF NORWOOD
ORDINANCE 03:12
“FIRE PREVENTION”
OF THE CODE OF THE BOROUGH OF NORWOOD
BE IT ORDAINED by the Mayor and Council of the Borough of
Norwood, County of Bergen, State of New Jersey as follows:
SECTION 1: Chapter 127 of the Code of the Borough of Norwood is hereby amended to add subsection “b” to Article I, Section 5 entitled Organization to read as follows:
b. A report of the Fire Prevention Bureau shall be made annually and transmitted to
the Mayor and Council by the Fire Official.
SECTION 2: Chapter 127, Article I, Fire Prevention, Section 6, subsections (a) and (b) entitled, Appointments, Term of Office, Removal is hereby amended to read:
a. Appointment of Fire Official
The Norwood Fire Prevention Bureau shall be under the direct supervision of the Fire Official pursuant to the Uniform Fire Safety Act (P.L. 1983, c.383; N.J.S.A. 52:27D-192 et seq.)
b. Term of Office
The Fire Official shall serve for a term of two (2) years. Any vacancy shall be filled for the unexpired term.
SECTION 3: Chapter 127, Article I, Fire Prevention, Section 8, subsection “C” Additional Fees is amended to read as follows:
C. Additional Fees.
Type of Use Fee
Class A: up to 2,000 square feet $45.00
Class B: 2,001 to 5,000 square feet 75.00
Class C: 5,001 to 10,000 square feet 150.00
Class D: more than 10,001 square feet 200.00
Class E: multifamily units 25.00 per dwelling unit (minimum charge $50.00)
c.1 All Life Hazard Uses as registered by the State of New Jersey, are
exempted from
the additional fees.
SECTION 4: Chapter 127, Article I, Fire Prevention, Section 10, subsection “C” Certificate of Compliance is amended to read as follows:
C. Smoke detectors, that are required to obtain a certificate of compliance, may be purchased and installed by the Fire Official at a fee of $40.00 per smoke detector.
All Ordinances or parts of Ordinances that are inconsistent with the provisions of this Ordinance are hereby repealed, but only to the extent of such inconsistencies.
The provisions of this Ordinance are severable. If any part of this Ordinance is declared to be unconstitutional or invalid by any Court, the remaining parts of this Ordinance will remain in full force and effect.
This Ordinance shall take effect upon final approval and publication, according to law.
