Barry Scott

barryscottI consider myself to be very fortunate to be a life long resident of Norwood growing up during the time when you knew just about everyone in town, and the traffic was so light that we were able to  happily ride our bikes every where.I graduated from Norwood P.S.,Tenafly H.S. And received my B.A. from the University of Tennessee. I had the very good fortune of working for Dover Elevator in sales for almost my entire working career, and enjoyed it so much that I did not retire until 71 years of age. I met the love of my life,Marge Cretazzo,a Fort Lee girl, while on a skiing trip to Sugar Bush,Vermont. We were married at Madonna R.C. Church in Fort Lee.The Good Lord blessed us with Brendon,Heather, who we lost to cancer, and Maura. We have two grand children Danny and Hanna who are the icing on the cake.
I have served our town as a softball coach, little league and knickerbocker coach,as well as a football coach.I am a past Grand Knight of K.C. Council 9021,and former Faithful navigator  of McCorristin Assembly 1289. I am an active member of our American Legion Post 272 and in awe of the Post's generosity in supporting so many worthy causes.
As a Councilman I  have served as Council President,Police Commissioner,Board of Health,Environmental Commission, liaison to our Senior Citizen Club,Library board of Trustees, and the Bergen County Community Development grant Committee where I have continued to secure grants for our Senior citizens including partial costs of running the Senior Van.
My reputation as a Councilman is one of watching and squeezing our tax dollars and strongly opposing programs and costs that give little or no value to we the tax payers. I am an environmentalist who was the Council point  man under both Mayor Kaplan and Mayor Barsa to draw up the plans and maps to save and protect Norwood's undeveloped environmentally sensitive open spaces. We enter into two agreements with the Meadowlands Commission to preserve and protect from development for perpetuity 125 acres in the Central Woods, and a second agreement to preserve 50 acres in west Norwood, known as Fox hill.
I am here to serve. Call me if I can be of service!
